Post in Pubic Protection - Food Control and Health & Safety Enforcement

Blackpool is the UK’s top seaside resort, famous for its tower, rollercoasters, golden sands and family entertainment. It has breath-taking countryside on its doorstep and is just an hour away from the city life of Manchester and the beauty of the Lake District.

Blackpool is well into a period of transformation. The Council is continuing to work hard to create a better, more attractive place to live, work and visit. We will benefit from improvements to the Promenade, better public transport, modernised streets, an extended shopping centre, a new IMAX cinema, a 21st century state-of-the-art conference centre, a range of new high quality hotels and many more places to eat, drink, and be entertained.

We want the right people to join our busy Public Protection team and make a real difference to the lives of our residents and visitors. We have a range of exciting opportunities available in Food Control and Health & Safety Enforcement.

With a range of businesses and industry within the town this is the perfect career opportunity for you to gain valuable experience in a wide range of enforcement actions and enhance your professional and personal development. You will receive support, training and supervision as required.

You will need to be enthusiastic, motivated and diligent. You will be responsible for carrying out food hygiene and food standards inspections, communicable disease control, and complaint investigations. You will carry out health and safety accident and complaint investigations. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the duties and functions within other regulatory areas such as licensing, housing enforcement and environmental protection etc.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be a great team player. You will need a full UK driving licence and access to a car while at work.

Applicants will ideally have a degree or diploma in Environmental Health and be CIEH EHRB registered. However those who have graduated and are hoping to qualify soon are invited to apply for our Public Protection Assistant post, with a view to potentially progressing to the Public Protection Officer post when qualified. For those with health and safety experience and/or qualifications are invited to apply for our Health and Safety Enforcement career graded post.

For an informal discussion please contact  Lindsay Milner (Food and Health & Safety Enforcement Manager) on 01253 478321 or email Lindsay.milner@blackpool.gov.uk
