About our roles and our team

Exciting opportunities have arisen for two Environmental Health Officers to join our ambitious and progressive Shared Environmental Health Partnership at Mole Valley and Tandridge District Councils.

Both roles are in the Residential and Environment Team and offer a wide range of challenges, and opportunities to make a difference and contribute to the success of our shared service whilst further developing your own knowledge and experience.

You will be working in a beautiful part of the country, amongst the Surrey Hills AONB. 

HMO licensing, licensing inspections, disrepair investigation and enforcement, and the issuing of financial penalties and prosecution work, where necessary.

Senior Environmental Health Officer: Salary £39,575 - £44,298

The successful candidate will take a lead role in the delivery of the whole range of private sector housing activities with the aim of improving housing standards.

You will have vast experienced of investigating issues of disrepair, offering expert advice and taking relavant enforcement action & administering financial penalties and prosecutions, when necessary.

You must be competent and well-practised in assessing disrepair using the HHSRS and have a thorough understanding of the links between housing and health, and be familiar with the MEES requirements.

You will have demonstrable experience of HMO licensing, be able to compile fire safety schedules and be confident in giving comprehensive advice to those responsible for residential property and HMO licence holders. Supporting the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants and experience of caravan site licensing would be an advantage.

You can also develop and hone your skills, dealing with statutory nuisances, environmental permitting and planning consultations.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of our shared service, and develop your own knowledge and skills whilst playing a key role in supporting the service’s primary authority partnership agreements.

Achieving all this will require proven experience in the field, enthusiasm, excellent organisation skills and a strong technical knowledge of housing enforcement.

The role will involve working closely with the public, colleagues, business proprietors and elected members and will require excellent customer service and communication skills.

About you

The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced individual who holds a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health, along with EHRB registration or a CIEH accredited alternative.

Demonstrable experience of housing inspections and the application of the HHSRS. Achieving compliance through both a supportive as well as a staged approach to enforcement and experience of serving statutory notices in accordance with the 2004 Housing Act.

Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of current legislation and guidance.

In addition to managing your own housing enforcement caseload you will lead on specialist environmental projects and support the team to manage pollution control and related work, to achieve your individual personal and professional development goals and the team’s overall objectives.

Environmental Health Officer: Salary £35,630 - £38,570

To further compliment our team, we are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual with excellent customer service and communication skills.

The role provides a broad range of challenges and opportunities including statutory nuisance work, environmental permitting, planning consultations, air quality, housing standards and HHSRS Inspections, HMO licensing, and caravan site licensing.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the shared service, whilst further developing your own knowledge and skills.

About you

The ideal candidate will hold a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health with EHRB registration or a CIEH accredited alternative, or working towards these.

Has some experience of housing and/or pollution control measures and achieving compliance through both a supportive as well as a staged approach to enforcement.

Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of current legislation and guidance.

In addition to managing your own housing and pollution control caseload you will be given the opportunity to lead on specialist environmental projects and support the team in improving housing conditions and related work to achieve your individual personal and professional development goals and the team’s overall objectives.

A full clean driving licence is essential to provide ready mobility around the partnership areas
