Salary range £26,975 to £39,571 per annum depending on qualifications / experience and progression through Performance Review awards plus benefits package and essential car user allowance

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident, and innovative individual with drive and determination to join our Regulatory Service working within our Private Sector Housing and Environmental Health Team and/or our Commercial Food Safety and Public Health and Safety team.

This could be an ideal first job for a newly qualified Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP), or as a student looking for support in completing your learning portfolio to become an EHP in the future.  We would also welcome applications from enthusiastic and dynamic individuals who are not qualified but have the desire to become a qualified Environmental Health Technical Officer or Practitioner.

Working within the Private Sector Housing and Environmental Health team you will be expected to manage your own caseload, investigating, and enforcing a range of legislation across environmental health and housing to protect residents in their homes.  Ensuring a high standard of service delivery and performance, dealing with more complex investigations, you will have the opportunity to lead and be responsible for one of our key areas, in addition to developing and improving our services

Working within our Commercial Environmental Health team, you will work as a Technical Officer completing regulatory and advisory interventions at food and other premises to ensure compliance with legislation and good practice relating to Food Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety and Licensing. You will carry out food sampling, deal with complaints and enquiries, carry out investigations and offer help and advice on environmental health matters. You will validate applications, inspect, monitor, and offer an advisory service for animal licenses to ensure the operator is complying with the law and holds a correct license if required. You will also provide support to Environmental Health Officers on complex investigations and enforcement matters, whilst building your experience to become a Practitioner in the future.

Site visits are required in a large rural area and so the suitable candidate will have the ability to travel throughout the West Suffolk area.

This is an exciting time to be joining West Suffolk Council which has gained a reputation for being ambitious and forward-thinking. The successful applicant will have to demonstrate the ability to working at pace and embracing change.
