About this job
An opportunity has arisen to work within the council's Private Sector Housing Team as a Compliance Officer to ensure that all privately rented properties meet the licence conditions, appropriate standards and provide safe accommodation to our residents.
The Private Sector Housing Team at Barking and Dagenham is part of a larger group of Regulatory Services within the Law and Governance Directorate.
We are looking for highly professional and experienced Compliance Officers who have all of the key behaviours expected from our organisation and who are capable of providing both specialist knowledge and delivering resolution focussed outcomes for our residents. The positions require a commitment and passion for private sector housing work, improving the quality, safety and choice of residential accommodation in Barking and Dagenham through a range of professional, specialist and regulatory interventions.

Special requirements for this post
The successful candidate will have experience of inspecting properties and understand and assess the issues, concerns and defects of a property. You will understand what works are required to rectify the issues identified and appreciate the seriousness and impacts to health that any deficiencies pose to the occupiers of the property.
The role also requires you to hold the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) qualification.
Candidates will be required to drive and have access to a vehicle on a daily basis.
About you
You will have the skills and ability to use your creative thinking to inspect properties, working with landlords and tenants to ensure that the properties meet the licence conditions and are free from serious hazards.
You will be passionate about improving the quality, safety and choice of residential accommodation in the Borough and committed to making a difference to our private rented tenants and their families.
You will have experience in working collaboratively within a multi-agency/multi-professional setting with relevant statutory agencies, landlords and tenants, Police as well as Third Sector organisations within the local authority.
You will be a flexible, dynamic and enthusiastic team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to your duties to get them completed as efficiently as possible.
