About the role

A job share opportunity has arisen within the Private Sector Housing team at Crawley Borough Council. Working as part of a small team, you will deliver a quality service to our private sector residents within our town. 

Your role will be to:

  • Further improve the good standard of accommodation already available
  • Carry out inspections as a result of complaints from tenants and take appropriate action to ensure a safe home for residents
  • Process and determine house in multiple occupation (HMO) Licence applications in accordance with the Housing Act 2004 and the our own HMO standards
  • Help to deliver our statutory Disabled Facility Grants and Discretionary Loans services 

You will have experience of working in a private sector housing environment, have a good working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, Disabled Facility Grants and other housing related legislation. 

You will be able to effectively and efficiently manage a challenging caseload and be confident working as part of a small team. 

To be successful in this role it is important that you are self-motivated with an eye for detail. You will have excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate sensitively with tenants, landlords and other interested partners to achieve the required outcomes. Experience in property inspections and carrying out HHSRS risk assessments is required for this role.

Additional information

Permanent part time contract on a Job Share basis. 2.5 days (18.5 hours) per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday AM).

Ability to attend evening meetings as and when required.

May on occasions be required to work in confined areas and climb ladders.

A full current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role for which an essential car user allowance (currently under review)

A Baseline Personnel Security Standard check is required as part of this role, and that will also entail the successful applicant undertaking a basic Disclosure and Barring Servicec (DBS) check.
