Hours: 36

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Private Sector Housing Team for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer to be involved in a wide range of licensing, housing standards, public health and enforcement functions.

The boroughs’ private rented sector is one of the largest in London and poor condition prevail.  Croydon Council is determined to improve rental standards for tenants and is currently reviewing options to deal with the poor conditions in the sector.  A full borough selective licensing scheme ended in 2020.  Whilst bringing experience would be advantageous the Council will consider applications from newly qualified officers who can benefit from the wide ranging sector issues and valuable experiences Croydon offers.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out many duties that look to secure property improvement; including HMO licensing, licensing inspections, tall buildings, properties below the minimum energy standard, strong enforcement, complaint work, area based property inspections, and the issuing of financial penalties and prosecution work.

At Croydon the team works closely with wider Council services to ensure a positive effect.

You need a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health recognised by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (or equivalent) and be registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board or equivalent.

You should be able to manage a diverse case load and have good time management and organisational skills, you must be able to work as part of a team and possess excellent communication skills to provide sound guidance to other officers.

You will hold a full driving licence and be able to provide you own car. You will be required to work some evenings, weekends and on a flexible basis.
