About the job 

We are looking for an enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer, or Environmental Protection Officer, to join our Environmental Protection Team as a permanent, full time, member of the Environmental Health Service. 

You will predominantly work within the field of Environmental Protection and will undertake a range of duties relating to pollution control. This will include investigation, resolution and regulation of a wide range of issues relating to both domestic and commercial premises and will include investigation of statutory nuisances, smoke control, regulation of permitted processes and local air quality management. You will provide responses to consultations upon applications received from our planning and licensing departments. 

Requirements 

Ideally you will have a relevant post graduate qualification, or be prepared to undertake such qualifications.

For the Environmental Health Officer, you must be a registered Environmental Health Practitioner, or, be working towards such registration. If you are working towards registration, will need to obtain registration within 12 months of appointment and your salary will be held at the entry point, until you are registered.

For the Environmental Protection Officer, you must have demonstrable experience in two or more of the following: 

  • Environmental Permitting
  • Local Air Quality Management 
  • Contaminated Land Management
  • Commenting upon complex planning and licensing applications
  • Acoustics

As a member of a small, committed and hard-working team, you will be involved in both proactive and reactive work across many of the specialist disciplines that lie within the team’s remit. 

The Environmental Health Officer may, occasionally, be required to assist within any area of the Environmental Health Service.

You will be organised, diligent and flexible, will have good communication skills and be able to work on your own initiative. You will have an eye for detail and be comfortable working under pressure. You will be expected to work with, and develop good working relationships with, a range of partner organisations and undertake out of hours visits as necessary. You must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
