As a Food Officer, you’ll ensure standards are adhered to across this vibrant borough.

We welcome applicants with a degree or diploma in Environmental Health or the Higher Certificate in Food Control as well as candidates who have or are about to gain their qualification who are looking to gain experience in Food Safety with a view to completing their EHRB.

You’ll carry out official controls at a range of establishments, in line with the Food Standards Agency Competency Framework.  You’ll gather and record information, accurately updating Hounslow Council’s database with your findings. We’ll also need you to take samples and interpret the results. With your experience, you’ll know how to work in compliance with service standards and internal procedures.

It’s important that we investigate food and public health complaints so you’ll be confident in your approach, and take proportionate enforcement action in cases of non-compliance. If needed, you will lead or assist in the preparation for legal proceedings. As a self-starter, you’ll be able to work alone with little supervision however for less experienced officers, support will be provided. You’ll also be an expert communicator, able to explain issues and concepts clearly.

Position and salary will be dependent on qualification and experience, with any job offer reliant on successful completion of the relevant qualification where necessary. You will have a full, valid UK driving licence. Flexible working and parking permit available.
