We are looking to appoint an Environmental Health Officer on a permanent basis who is either fully qualified or working towards achieving this. The role will focus mainly on the Environmental Protection work areas and will also contribute to the wider environmental health function. The candidate does not need to be certified to complete food hygiene inspections, but applications from persons who are will be considered accordingly.

The role will cover the full range of environmental protection duties, including LA-IPPC permitting, air quality, commercial complaints and contaminated land work. You will need to assess and interpret legislation and technical guidance and its application. You will enforce noise and pollution control legislation through the provision of advice and information, service of notices, default works and/or legal proceedings and giving evidence in court. You will be involved in assessing the environmental aspects of planning and licensing consultations.

Applications from Environmental Health Graduates who have yet to complete their practical training programme which will lead to registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner would also be welcomed.

Consideration will also be given to candidates who can add additional expertise and capacity to the Council and enable us to enhance the work that we do to address poor food hygiene standards. You will help to ensure that food businesses are provided with advice and guidance to enable them to maintain and improve standards and to work on other environmental health related work areas, which will be agreed as part of the recruitment process.

If you would like to join a small, effective and proactive Council then we want to hear from you.
