Newark and Sherwood District Council is situated in the historic market town of Newark, in the heart of Nottinghamshire. We are expanding our Public Protection Team and are looking to recruit Environmental Health Practitioners into the following roles, to support the ambitions of the Council in creating places where residents, tenants, visitors, and businesses are able to flourish, live well and fulfil their potential.

Senior Environmental Health Officer (Environmental Protection)

You will take a leading role in the investigation and enforcement of complaints of statutory nuisances, noise, drainage and other Public Health issues. Acting as an expert advisor on matters relating to Environmental Protection including air quality and contaminated land and assisting in the supervision of the team, including allocation of work and mentoring less experienced team members.

Strong Communication and negotiating skills to work effectively in close partnership with other agencies is essential.

Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing)

You will investigate complaints of disrepair in the private rented sector, taking appropriate action using HHSRS and inspect park home and caravan sites.  Assisting in the licensing and inspection of Houses in Multiple Occupation and investigate complaints of poor housing conditions along with working in the provision and administration of disabled facilities adaptations and grants.

Environmental Health Officer (Environmental Protection)

You will effectively respond to planning, air quality and contaminated land enquiries and consultations and investigate a wide variety of complaints about domestic Anti-Social Behaviour, statutory nuisance and other Public Health complaints. Officers will carry out inspections of industrial processes under Integrated Pollution Control, investigate private water supplies, land and air quality and respond to pollution complaints.

Key Requirements for both posts are either a Diploma in Environmental Health or BSc in Environmental Health, previous experience across all core disciplines, knowledge and experience of implementing appropriate codes of practice and guidance. In addition, you will have a proven track record of achievement in problem solving, achieving compliance and customer satisfaction along with experience of dealing with enforcement issues and investigating complaints in breaches of legislation. Effective communication and negotiation skills are essential.
