Senior Environmental Health Officer (Commercial Food and Health and Safety) – Ref: SEHO (F)

Salary: Up to £40,288.00 p.a, (37 hours per week) Plus a £5,000 Introductory ‘Golden Hello’ payment

Broxbourne Council seeks to hire an excellent communicator and problem solver as its new Senior Environmental Health Officer. You will join a team constantly aiming to be at the forefront of health and safety and food safety enforcement.

Broxbourne has excellent connections to London and the proximity to the M25 means the Environmental Health team is involved in a much wider range of activities than you would expect for a Borough Council. The team also leads on local COVID initiatives with the County Council, and is heavily involved in other pandemic work such as investigating complaints, providing advice, and contact tracing.

Your work will include food hygiene inspections as required by the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice. You will investigate outbreaks of infectious disease, accidents, business complaints, health and safety issues, and special treatment license applications.

You must be an Environmental Health Officer and hold a Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board or equivalent. You must demonstrate the relevant competencies detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice for inspection of establishments, use of sanctions, sampling, import and export controls, reactive investigations, and up to date Continual Professional Development (CPD).

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post. A valid driving license and access to own transport is essential.

To discuss the role further, contact the Head of Environmental Health and Licensing Rebecca Broadbelt on 01992 785555 (ext. 5963), or by email Rebecca.Broadbelt@broxbourne.gov.uk

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.

Application forms must be submitted online by midnight on Sunday 20 February 2022 quoting the above reference.

Interviews will be held as soon as possible after the closing date.

Borough Offices, Bishops’ College, Churchgate, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, EN8 9XQ.
