Senior / Environmental Health Officer

Starting salary between £32,000 and £40,000 per annum depending on level

Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn

West Norfolk consists of urban, rural and coastal areas, and a variety of local industry including tourism, together with a thriving shellfish industry and busy river port.  This means you will have an opportunity to undertake a challenging role with a wide variety of food and health and safety duties in a diverse authority.

If you are a highly motivated and adaptable food safety professional, we need you to join our, professional, and multi-functional Food Safety and Health and Safety team.

You will carry out inspections and audits of risk rated food premises including investigations into food/premises hygiene complaints, food poisoning allegations, outbreaks and infectious disease notifications. You will also carry out investigations into health and safety based complaints and accidents and also carry out inspections of premises based on national priorities and local intelligence. 

You will monitor and validate exports of fishery products and shellfish including the verification of documents, identity, and physical checks, in addition to fulfilling duties as prescribed under the International Health Regulations 2005 as part of the Port Health Authority function.  The role will also involve sampling of shellfish and seawater from classified beds as well as sampling where necessary as a part of an inspection or response to a complaint. There will also be a requirement to carry out sampling from private water supplies You will also be required to assist in the Covid response and recovery as necessary.

Qualified to environmental health degree (or equivalent) standard, you will be newly qualified or an experienced Environmental Health Officer with a professional membership of CIEH (or other relevant body) and update knowledge of current food and health and safety legislation. You will be able to communicate effectively with a good understanding of enforcement procedures.  You must have a full driving licence to be able to travel around the Borough. Support will be given to newly qualified officers to assist them in completing the ‘Path to Registration’ where appropriate.
