Scientific Officer

Up to £36,731 pa

Based in Andover with the opportunity to work partly from home.

In this highly varied role you’ll work in our Environmental Protection team as a technical specialist, covering a wide range of Environmental Health regulatory matters.  Primarily you will seek to ensure that ground contamination risks are properly addressed when brownfield sites are developed, help review and assess local air quality, co-ordinate the sampling and risk assessment programme in respect of private water supplies, undertake various Environmental Permitting duties and help advise on the suitability of new development to avoid significant environmental impacts.

You will need to be self-motivated, hard-working and have strong organisational skills.  The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent qualifications in a scientific subject or an Environmental Science, preferably with experience in one or more of the above subject areas, and be willing to develop skills in all other aspects of the role.  Experience of dealing with land contamination issues, in particular in a local authority context, would be an advantage.

In return, we offer successful applicants a competitive salary, a great place to work with enthusiastic and supportive colleagues. We actively promote a good work/life balance and encourage continuous learning and development. We offer a range of employment benefits including a local government pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, free on-site parking and discounted leisure facilities.
