Chelmsford City Council is looking to appoint a permanent, part-time Environmental Health Officer or Business Compliance Officer.

We want an enthusiastic, suitably qualified Officer to join our dedicated Business Compliance Team in Public Health and Protection Services to help maintain and improve the health and environment for those who live in, work in or visit our Borough. This is a great opportunity to develop and expand skills across food safety and health and safety regulation.

Applicants should be competent in food safety in line with Chapter 4 of the Food Law Code of Practice and have excellent communication skills to influence standards and behaviour.  They will need a commitment to team working as well as having the ability to work efficiently and effectively on their own. High standards of customer service and the discipline to deliver this across a large and varied workload are essential.

Chelmsford has the best of both worlds in terms of working and living. Our thriving and lively city centre is surrounded by village communities and countryside and is only 35 minutes from London by train.

Chelmsford City Council operates a flexible working day and provides a wide range of staff benefits including excellent pension, employee healthcare cash plan, subsidised parking, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans, employee assistance programme and workplace discounts.

A full driving licence is required for this post.

Anyone interested in the position who is:

  • not an EHO, but holds the Higher Certificate of Food Safety Inspection,
  • an EHO returning to work or moving from other fields of work whose food competency has lapsed or
  • has other queries about the position,

is invited to contact Izzie Daniel, Business Compliance Lead Officer for an informal discussion before submitting their application on 01245 606662.

*Please note that someone appointed to this position who holds the higher certificate of food Safety, would be as a Business Compliance Officer on grade 7.
