ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER – 37 hrs per week

GRADE G     £32,234 to £35,745

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time, permanent Environmental Health Officer in the council’s Environmental Health, Food Health and Safety Team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual qualified to Diploma or Degree level in Environmental Health (or equivalent). This will include holding the relevant Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent. You will need to have an understanding of the effective application of related legislation and enforcement processes. Due to service demands our preference is to appoint an experienced officer if possible, however inexperienced officers will also be considered.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Carry out proactive and reactive activity for food hygiene and health & safety functions.
  • Undertaking investigations and identifying controls in relation to infectious disease and food poisoning.
  • Carrying out relevant registration and licence visits for example skin piercing and animal welfare (subject to qualifications).
  • Respond to and action requests for service in respect of relevant aspects of Environmental Health in accordance with council procedures.
  • Initiate statutory action where necessary and support other officers undertaking enforcement duties.

You will be an excellent communicator with a strong commitment to excellent customer service and be able to deal effectively with difficult situations achieving positive outcomes. A commitment to team working is paramount to this post as is the requirement and ability to analyse complex information and make informed decisions with often conflicting demands. This is a demanding job with a varied workload and a requirement to meet strict deadlines with a risk based approach, therefore a high level of self-motivation and the ability to take the lead and make decisions are essential qualities.
