Following an ongoing highly successful recruitment drive, Buckingham Futures are actively recruiting for additional Port Health Support Officers within our clients Port Health team. As the implications of Brexit take hold they will need to add further resources to their team to help manage a huge volume of work at their new Border Control Facility in Kent. This role will offer you the opportunity to be involved in a major UK infrastructure project and as such will offer unique and exciting long term career opportunities. The Council is working very closely with DEFRA and the project will involve multiple partner agencies and organisations.

 

You will carry out the documentary, identity and physical checks on consignments including products of animal origin and high-risk food not of animal origin, subject to an Official Veterinarian or Port Health Officer making the final decision on a consignment.

 

This will involve confirming that products are compliant with current legislation, undertaking manifest and documentary checks on vessels and consignments and notifying the relevant personnel where irregularities are identified. You will also carry out documentary checks on organic and fishery products whilst supporting the Port Health Officers with sampling.

You will hold the responsibility of carrying out calibration of temperature monitoring equipment and ensuring that stock levels within the facility are maintained at all times.

Previous experience of working in food manufacturing or catering along with knowledge of food hygiene controls, HACCP, other quality control systems, traceability, working with a documented food safety system, record keeping and food produce identification would be an advantage.

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 qualification (or higher) in a science, catering or food-based subject OR demonstrable experience working in a food safety/port health/enforcement team
  • GCSE (Grade A-C/4-9) in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Strong IT skills, familiar with Microsoft Office, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
