Environmental Health officer (trainee) – 2-year temporary post

Based at Britannia House

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert, outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

A unique opportunity exists for an Environmental Health Officer/Food Safety Officer seeking a new challenge. Bradford is a diverse city and you can expect a busy and varied work load; and many challenges.

The post of Environmental Health Officer is a generic post and you may be required to undertake Environmental Health Officer duties within the other Teams. Currently we have a vacancy in the food safety team.

As a member of the Food Safety Team you will carry out proactive and reactive food hygiene inspections and interventions, investigate food complaints and give advice on all food related issues. You will be required to investigate cases of infectious diseases and food borne disease. You will also be involved in the development and delivery of public health initiatives and training.

You will be enthusiastic, committed, self-motivated and have a ‘can-do’ attitude, including excellent communication skills.

For the Environmental Health Officer post you must hold a recognised degree in Environmental Health or a recognised diploma in Environmental Health and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board or have Chartered Status awarded by the CIEH.

For the Food Safety Officer post you must hold the Higher Certificate in Food Control and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board.

For the Environmental Health Officer trainee post – you must hold a recognised degree in Environmental Health or a recognised diploma in Environmental Health. We will accept applications from those who will be completing their degree course this year. This is a two-year temporary post to provide support, training and work experience to obtain Chartered Status.

The Council offers a range of benefits including flexible working and training and development.
