Job Details

Our client is looking to appoint an established public sector manager to lead 23 direct staff / 18 indirect working across their Environment and Street Scene Division. You will report to the Head of Waste and Cleansing Services serving to provide leadership on the effective delivery of a range of commercial services associated with the Business Unit.

A key focus of your role will be looking at how the Council can expend their service offering to a wide range of potential internal and external customers seeking opportunities to maximise income through direct sales and marketing activities and the provision of information and advice.

You will have fill accountability for the design, delivery and evaluation of work programmes within the service area, ensuring that the team delivers to budget and in line with targets and objectives. You will ensure robust procedures are in place for documenting processes and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.

You will oversee staff and you will carry out performance management duties including benchmarking reviews and research and analysis work to help implement appropriate policies and strategies are developed to improve service delivery.

Our client is a an extremely busy, densely populated South London Borough whose northern border is the River Thames. You will be responsible for day-to-day management of a budget of £1m relating to the delivery of environmental services, overseeing a fleet of 20-30 active vehicles.

To apply for this role you will need considerable experience leading a waste service and ideally this will have been gained within central London. Our client would give strong consideration to those who have worked in contracting and have a strong operational management background.
