Customer First Resolution Team Specialist Advisor (Licensing) x 3

Salary: Up to £37,890 pa (depending on experience and qualifications)

Hours: 37 hours a week

Contract: Permanent

Based: Lewes and Eastbourne

We are seeking three individuals with drive and enthusiasm to join our Environmental Health Team which deliver our Regulatory Service across Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough Council areas:

  • 2 x Customer First Resolution Team Specialist Advisor (Night-time Economy Licensing)
  • 1 x Customer First Resolution Team Specialist Advisor (Licensing)

The key purposes of the job are to improve and maintain public safety within the local area by ensuring effective use of licensed control over specified activities, including; premises licences, gambling licences, pavement licences, hackney carriages, private hire vehicles, sex shop licences, scrap metal and street trading.


For this role it is essential that you have a solid background in Licensing and enforcement. You must be an excellent communicator as you will be interacting with trade representatives and members of the public.

Main responsibilities include carrying out inspections and investigations in respect of both council’s duties and responsibilities under all relevant licensing legislation. Investigating complaints, service requests and taking appropriate action. In addition you will be providing specialist and expert advice along with guidance to licensees, applicants and the general public.

Although this role will be predominantly home working, you will be expected to be on site as and when required. You would need to be available for licensing committees and be experienced in writing and delivering Licensing Act committee hearing reports.

The role would require you to deliver areas of the corporate strategy and associated policies and plans, with a requirement to provide technical input into corporate projects and strategic programmes.

You will need to demonstrate a willingness and capacity to tackle serious or persistent non-compliance using the full spectrum of a graduated enforcement approach. 

You must possess a Licensing Practitioners qualification or have previous experience of regulations and enforcement within a local government setting.
