Ipswich is the county town of Suffolk, steeped in history, filled with beautiful parks and has a vibrant, lively waterfront area. There are good transport links to the capital and the town is local to picturesque countryside and the coastline of East Anglia.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Private Sector Housing Team

As part of the Public Protection service area, you will play a key role in protecting and improving the health of people living, working and relaxing in Ipswich. The service brings together teams who play a highly visible and respected role across the council.

The Private Sector Housing team has varied functions and is responsible for assuring compliance with statutory housing standards in the private rented sector. Your day-to-day role will be investigating complaints of housing disrepair, potential overcrowding and inspecting and licensing Houses in Multiple Occupation. You will also help to administer a variety of grants including the provision of adaptations for disabled persons and the renovation of empty homes. There are new arising opportunities in the team to be a part of proactive projects and joint working aimed at raising standards in the private rented sector.

You must have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, or in an equivalent environmental health field. You must be registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (or shortly to be registered) and will be a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

You will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to customer care, whilst having the ability to take on a varied caseload and work independently. You will be a strong team player with a positive outlook.

In return, we can offer you up to 31 days annual leave as well as bank holidays and we support flexible and agile working arrangements.
