Grade 8 (Graduate entry – temporary 12 month contract initially) - £24,491 to 27,040

Environmental Health Officer (Housing & Public Health)
This post is within the Housing and Public Health Team and covers duties around private sector housing, domestic noise complaints and public health matters such as drainage, gypsies and travellers and filthy and verminous premises. Ideally you will have recent experience of HHSRS assessments, investigating domestic noise complaints and associated enforcement activities including the preparation of reports, notices and evidence gathering. Environmental Protection Officer (Environmental Protection/Enforcement) x2
We have two vacancies within our Environmental Protection and Environmental Enforcement Teams. The roles will be involved with projects designed to improve and protect our communities and environment, including large scale pollution incident investigation, industrial pollution control, contaminated land projects and air quality interventions. You will also deal with commercial and industrial nuisances and waste regulation within the districts and provide expert advice on the implications of licence or planning applications.
The ideal applicants will be innovative, enthusiastic and committed to providing a high quality service and have an appreciation of the contribution the Service can make to the wider public health agenda. You will have excellent communication skills in order to deal with a wide range of customers, partners and other agencies.
You will be able to organise and prioritise your own workload to ensure targets are met with a focus on customer satisfaction and outcomes.
You may be required to undertake the full range of duties and responsibilities within other sections of the Service, subject to the necessary skills training and experience, in order to meet demand.
To be successful you will need:
- Degree / Diploma in Environmental Health.
- Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or Registered EHP.
- A thorough knowledge of the legislation and codes of practice within Environmental Health.
- Experience of working in a relevant service area of Environmental Health.
- Effective IT skills including MS Office and relevant systems such as IDOX database.
- Own transport/current full UK driving licence in order to undertake site investigations across the district.
The Environmental Protection roles are suitable for graduates with CIEH accredited degrees who are working toward registration with EHRB/CIEH or an equivalent specialist pollution control qualification. The roles will be based between home working and at North East Derbyshire District Council offices but with a need to travel within the districts of both Bolsover and North East Derbyshire.
