Environmental Health/Health & Safety Officer

Fixed Term for 3 years from appointment

A collaborative job role working under the direction of both Public Health and Environmental Health to engage with business operators and event organisers to provide advice and assistance in relation to Covid prevention and control. The post holder will work as part of a Covid response team and will be expected to have close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The position will be varied and include the investigation of Covid cases and infectious disease notifications in the community, and the undertaking of certain specific health and safety related investigations including complaint work in commercial premises.

The role will involve strengthening working relationships between the two functions, including information exchange, lessons learned, and development opportunities for joint working.

This post is fixed term for three years for the purposes of ensuring Covid-19 cases/outbreaks are managed at events and in commercial premises over the next few years.

Applicants must secure agreement for their release from their Line Manager before making any application for an Internal Secondment opportunity or before accepting an offer of appointment to a post on an internal secondment basis. 

An employee may still apply for the opportunity without the express consent of his or her Line Manager and if successful in their application they will resign from his or her substantive post in order to take up the post on a fixed term contract basis. To be clear, in these circumstances an employee will be resigning from his/her substantive post in order to take up a fixed term offer and their contract of employment will be altered to this effect or the employee may decline the offer of the fixed term post.
