Hertsmere’s Environmental Health Department is looking to recruit an Environmental Health professional who wishes to enhance their career within a small and friendly team.

We are looking for a new member of staff to carry out a diverse range of duties within the Commercial Team dealing with the regulation of Food Safety and Health and Safety in a wide range of local businesses.

The Council is committed to invest in our teams to ensure continuous progression of our staff through training and professional development.

We are keen to receive applications from qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officers with EHRB Registration, or Registered or Chartered Environmental Health Practitioners. Ideally, applicants should satisfy the appropriate competencies of the Food Law Code of Practice and Section 18 of the Health & Safety Act 1974. In addition, a health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH is desirable.  

The successful candidate will be well-organised, efficient and dependable; used to working within a fast-moving and challenging environment. They will be able to adjust to demands and define priorities, work rapidly and accurately and have the ability to communicate effectively with other professionals, elected members, senior managers within the council and the general public.

You will need to have a flexible approach to working hours as evening and weekend work may sometimes be necessary, and you may be requested to participate in the standby out of hours service for which an additional allowance is paid.  A full driving licence and access to a car for work purposes is also required (a car allowance is payable).

The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).
