Salary:

SEHO: Grade 11 (£33,782 - £37,890)

PPO: Grades 8-10 (£25,991- £34,728)

We are seeking talented, dynamic, and inspirational professionals who will play a key role in the delivery of better regulatory services, and to help achieve these goals for County Durham.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Community Protection Service, in one of the largest unitary councils in the country and contribute to the transformation and improvement of local regulatory service

The full-time positions are available within Durham County Council’s Housing Action Team or Nuisance Action Team.  An additional temporary position with a 12 month fixed term contract is also required to cover a period of Maternity leave within the Development Assessment Team.   

These teams are part of the Community Protection Service of the Neighbourhoods and Climate Change Directorate.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to be able to undertake the requirements of their role.  In addition, successful candidates must have recent experience in either:

  • Enforcing housing conditions in the privately rented sector and various public health related duties   
  • Investigating and enforcing statutory nuisance complaints
  • Providing advice on the environmental impacts associated with planning and licensing applications

The career graded roles range from Public Protection Officer to Senior Environmental Health Officer

Appointment within the above career grade being dependent upon qualifications and prior experience within an enforcement role.
