ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER

POST NUMBER: 000164

PERMANENT, BAND 7 (£30,451 - £33,782 pro rata)

Plus Market supplement to £34,728 (pro rata),

30 hours per week. (essential car user)

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is an exciting and vibrant place to work. The Council is actively supporting businesses by successfully bidding for funding to develop and improve the local environment such as upgrades to the fixed market and the rebuilding of the historic winter gardens. The Council also successfully supports the local off-shore industry which is central to the local economy.

The Commercial Team is a well respected and agile group of environmental health practitioners who are adaptive in their approach to businesses, to ensure that the visitors and residents of the area can be reassured that their safety is at the heart of what the businesses do.

This is a split role providing both health and safety advice to businesses and visitors to the Borough, but also to provide the Council’s corporate health and safety service. The Council takes its responsibility for corporate health and safety very seriously and supports the role at all levels. You will be required to provide technical advice and guidance to the team, local businesses and Councillors on a range of subjects but mainly those relating to health and safety.

We are interested in receiving applications from people who are persistent, determined, patient, thorough, pay attention to detail, and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. You will need to be an excellent communicator and have both a professional and personable manner.

Ideally applicants will hold a NEBOSH or IOSH diploma or hold an Environmental Health degree and be EHRB registered or a Chartered practitioner however, we will accept applications from those with a relevant health and safety background who have the drive, ability and commitment to complete both the academic and practical coursework necessary to gain the recognised professional qualification. If you feel you can offer all of the above and more, then we can offer you fantastic training and a career for life.

This role is permanent and will be generally working office hours, with agile working practices dependant on the needs of the team; however, there will be times where unsociable hours will be required. Due to the nature of the role a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle will be essential.

If this sounds like something that you would enjoy, please read the attached job description, if you wish to discuss the job further please call Grizelle Britton, Commercial Team Manager 01493 846413.

Closing date: 1st November 2021.

Interview date: 5th & 11th November 2021
