A unique opportunity exists for an Environmental Health Officer or Environmental Health Practitioner seeking a new challenge or step in to a new area of Environmental Health. Colchester is a diverse Borough; it is the oldest recorded town in the UK, has an ever-modernising community and a rapidly expanding urban centre surrounded by delightful open countryside, picturesque villages and coastline. We also have a large Garrison community, a thriving University with a large student population and one of the best Zoos’ in Europe.

We are looking for an Environmental Health Officer who has a desire for personal growth, continual challenge and who will embrace a holistic approach to improving outcomes for the residents, visitors and businesses of Colchester.

The Council recognises the key role Environmental Health has in protecting, sustaining and improving people’s quality of life. At Colchester Borough Council all environmental health teams sit within our Communities Group alongside other regulatory services such as Licensing, Environmental Protection, Private Sector Housing and Building Control.

You can expect a busy and varied workload. The role is based primarily within the Food Safety Team, providing advice and dealing with all issues relating to food inspections, s food poisoning, food hygiene, Environmental Health certification and animal licensing. 

As part of Environment Health work, we would expect you to undertake engagement work with partner services and promote Environmental Health as an effective means of preventing ill health through your work and Inspections.

You will need to be motivated, flexible and committed to personal development and be able to manage a large and varied workload.
