The three posts are based within the Housing & Public Protection Service spanning 3 teams, please see breakdown below.

The role:

Commercial Team (1 post)

An opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking Environmental Health Officer to become part of the Housing & Public Protection Service’s Commercial Team. You will effectively deliver programmed food hygiene inspections, investigate infectious disease cases and outbreaks, respond to complaints, service requests and enquiries, taking necessary enforcement action to improve standards and protect public health. Experience across the broad spectrum of environmental health would be desirable.

Environmental Protection (1 post)

As part of the Team, you will effectively inspect local authority permitted industrial sites, respond to planning consultations, implement the Contaminated Land Strategy, regulate private water supplies through risk assessment and improvement interventions, monitor air quality across the County, respond to a variety of environmental complaints, service requests and enquiries, taking necessary enforcement action to improve environmental standards and protect public health.

Community & Environmental Health (1 post)

You will manage a varied caseload of nuisance, public health and housing standards related work. This will include liaison with the public, updating case records, inspection, evidence gathering in accordance with appropriate legislative frameworks, site visits, and the use of technical equipment and progression of cases through appropriate enforcement pathways.

You should have significant experience of housing and nuisance investigation and a detailed understanding of appropriate legal frameworks. A current HHSRS qualification is essential. Experience of Community Safety or the investigation of anti-social behaviour would be desirable. A strong commitment to self-development is essential as is the ability to work to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake project work.

All 3 officers need to be excellent team players and competent individuals used to dealing with complex routine and reactive case work. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including negotiation and presentation are essential.

Essential requirements:

You will possess a relevant qualification in Environmental Health to degree standard or equivalent, have or be working towards EHRB certificate of registration or equivalent, and preferably significant post qualification experience with relevant CPD. The posts are based in Cramlington, but will involve travel throughout the County. You must be able to meet the transport requirements of the posts.
