We have a full-time vacancy in the Food and Safety Team for an Environmental Health Officer. 

 Main duties will predominately be focussed on food safety and standards but there will be some health and safety responsibilities. This will include inspections of food premises including approved premises, outbreak investigations, responding to food hygiene complaints, alleged food poisoning, hygiene and pest issues, food labelling and allergens. You will also be required to carry out sampling, infectious disease investigations, and issue health certificates for food exports. You will be required to service enforcement notices and initiate appropriate legal action. You may also be required to investigate workplace accidents and complaints. 

 The appointed officer will possess good verbal and written communication skills, be self-motivated with a demonstrable commitment to meeting targets and the needs of regulatory services.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To protect the health, safety and welfare of residents, visitors and employees in Hammersmith and Fulham through the enforcement of food hygiene, food standards, infectious diseases and health and safety standards in commercial premises and work activities.  To protect the health of consumers through the enforcement of food hygiene and food standards, including allergens in commercial premises.
  • To carry out a range of services, this will include but is not limited to: inspections, audits, projects, surveys, alternative enforcement activities, attending meetings, advice visits, investigating complaints and service requests, sampling, monitoring, gathering evidence, revisits, carrying out PACE interviews, taking statements and determining appropriate action.
  • To undertake consistent, proportionate, targeted, accountable and transparent enforcement action, in accordance with best practice advice and guidance and enforcement policies, to resolve any identified non-compliances. This may include seizing food products, closure of food business, preparing and serving statutory notices, simple cautions and other legal documents.
