Location: Civic Centre, Keynsham

Housing Services administers mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants with the Council’s Occupational Therapy service. The service has an important role to play in helping to adapt existing homes to promote independent living within the B&NES area.

We aim for high standards of customer service and are seeking a surveyor with a home improvement/adaptations background or equivalent to work with the Housing Standards and Improvement Team.

The appointed officer will action all stages of the Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) process including the assessment of eligibility for mandatory and discretionary grants.  The focus is on home visits and assisting the client with the making of a valid DFG application through to the satisfactory completion of work.

Applicants will need meet the requirements of the person specification which include:

  • A suitable Degree, Higher National Diploma, or equivalent in housing construction and adaptation related discipline.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building construction and home adaptation to facilitate independent living.
  • Computer literate and good working knowledge of relevant software.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with elderly and disabled people.

Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
