Technical Officer/Environmental Health Officer

We are recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer/Technical Officer (career graded) in our Environmental Protection Team. We are preferably looking to attract a fully a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner (holding an EHRB Certificate of Registration or Chartered status).

The role will cover the full range of environmental protection duties, including LA-IPPC permitting, air quality, commercial complaints and contaminated land work. You will need to assess and interpret legislation and technical guidance and its application. You will enforce noise and pollution control legislation through the provision of advice and information, service of notices, default works and/or legal proceedings and giving evidence in court. You will be involved in assessing the environmental aspects of planning and licensing consultations.

Applications from Environmental Health Graduates who have yet to complete their practical training programme which will lead to registration as a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner would also be welcomed.

As this is a career graded post we will also consider candidates who are willing to train. You need to have a background in pollution control work and demonstrate an interest in Environmental Health and knowledge of Local Government and other health organisations.

Applicants who are not EHRB registered or do not have Chartered status will start on a lower grade and accompanying salary until they become chartered, please refer to the attached job description for more information. Support, training, and fees to gain Chartered status will be provided by the Council.

This role is a career graded post, as such the below salaries apply depending on qualifications/experience, with the opportunity to progress through the grades on attainment of qualifications. Please see attached Job description for further details.

Technical Officer - Grade H £27,741 to £29,577 Per annum

Environmental health officer - Level 1 - Grade I - £30,451 to £32,234 Per annum

Environmental health officer - Level 2 - Grade K - £35,745 to £36,922 Per annum
