Senior Environmental Health Officer

(Commercial Food and Health and Safety) – Ref: SEHO (F)

Salary up to £40,288 p.a. - 37 hours per week plus a £5,000 Introductory ‘Golden Hello’ payment

Broxbourne is a very attractive, vibrant place to work with excellent connections to London and the rest of the country. Being located so close to London and the M25 means that the busy Environmental Health team is involved in a much wider range of activities than you would expect for a District Council.

We are committed to improving the quality of life of all of our residents. The team will be leading the local COVID initiatives in partnership with the County Council and is heavily involved in organising other associated pandemic work, including investigation of complaints, providing advice and contact tracing.

We wish to recruit an excellent communicator and problem solver who is keen to join a team whose aim is to be constantly at the forefront of the latest initiatives in the environmental health field to deliver food safety and health and safety enforcement.

Managing your own individual caseload, your work will include programmed statutory inspections for food premises and implementing the food hygiene rating system.  All inspections will be completed in line with the risk ratings and required through the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice. You will be responsible for enforcing food safety, investigating outbreaks of infectious disease, complaints about food businesses, accident investigations, health and safety complaints, special treatment licence applications, and provide advice to businesses and consumers.

You must be an Environmental Health Officer and hold a Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board or equivalent. You must also be able to demonstrate that you meet the relevant competencies detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice in respect of inspection of food establishments, use of enforcement sanctions, sampling, import and export controls, reactive investigations and up to date Continual Professional Development (CPD).

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, with a positive attitude and committed with a dynamic approach to their work and to providing high quality services, playing an important role within the forward thinking Environmental Health Team.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post. A valid driving license and access to own transport is essential.

If you would like to informally discuss the role in more detail, please contact the Head of Environmental Health and Licensing Rebecca Broadbelt by telephone 01992 785555 (extension 5963), or by email Rebecca.Broadbelt@broxbourne.gov.uk

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.

Details and application forms for all job vacancies are listed on the Council’s website.

Application forms must be submitted online by midnight on Sunday 31 October 2021  quoting the above reference.

Interviews will be held as soon as possible after the closing date.
