Environmental Health Team Leader (Housing & Domestic)

Location: Buckinghamshire County Wide

Overview

Reporting to the Environmental Health Manager (Housing & Domestic), you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a team of officers in the Housing & Domestic Team.

You will be required to have a broad knowledge and substantial relevant experience in areas such as the Housing Act and HMO licensing, Statutory Nuisance, Pest Control, Public Health legislation and other relevant statutory functions.

You will support officers to undertake a robust programme of reactive enforcement and proactive interventions.

About the role

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic to ensure team performance targets are met, and that staff are supported and coached to achieve their personal development goals.  As this is a newly formed team you will also be encouraged to be innovative to help develop a high functioning service.

The post will provide the successful candidate with experience of working in a challenging and diverse housing environment including overseeing proactive interventions to prevent hospital admissions. You will build on existing skills and support officers to make a real difference through traditional enforcement and also by using targeted proactive interventions in collaboration with our Health and Social care partners.

The department has been through significant changes and so this will be a real opportunity for the right candidate to introduce and embed new and current work practices to contribute to the prevention agenda.

Key Accountabilities

Working collaboratively with a second Team Leader, you will lead and manage a team of environmental health staff to ensure the delivery of expert advice to meet statutory duties and to provide a high-quality service to customers.

The ability to build key relationships with partners is essential, and you should show initiative in problem-solving and decision making, along with sensitivity in managing contentious issues.

You will actively manage resources within the team, and advise the EH Manager on issues relating to the service and its delivery in line with corporate objectives.

About you

You will be educated to Diploma, BSc or MSc level in Environmental Health or equivalent, and have expert knowledge in relevant legislation, guidance, best practice and emerging issues within the scope of the Housing & Domestic area.

You will have a demonstrable track record of motivating staff, excellent communication skills, and the ability to oversee legal documents and case files produced by the team.

Other information

This role may require you to carry out site visits to support officers when necessary, but we actively encourage the team to adopt a flexible working approach to improve their work-life balance. This includes working from home and attending the office as and when required, such as face-to-face meetings.

Our main offices are based in Aylesbury, Amersham & High Wycombe.
