We’re looking for Environmental Health Officers in food/health & safety at all levels

As Career Grade roles we are looking for those that need support to start a career in environmental health as well as those who are already qualified, experienced and ready to help us support those starting their careers. This is a post you can apply for whether you are a recent graduate or have a few years environmental health experience and are looking for a new career opportunity. We are looking to appoint people at different points on the career grade structure according to qualifications and experience.

The salary range is purposefully wide in order to properly recognise your level of experience, qualification and talent.

About the role…

These exciting opportunities will support the improvement of this vital service and benefit the environment and local economy. We are looking for Environmental Health Officers who can inspire and manage a varied workload and we have opportunities for those who have a keen interest but minimal experience in environmental health, those that have a good grounding in environmental health and those who are highly experienced in complex cases. These positions allows the post holder flexibility with the ability to work from home and to be out and about, working on the job. You will need to be a good team player and have excellent communication skills, you will also need the ability to be self-motivated and proactive.

Graduate Environmental Health Officer: This is a very exciting opportunity for someone who has completed their BSc or Masters Degree in Environmental Health, or is in the process of doing so, to train and be mentored on the job to become a qualified Environmental Health Officer registered with the CIEH.

Environmental Health Officer: This is an incredibly varied role, where you will work as part of a team to carry out planned food hygiene inspections, health and safety projects and respond to reactive work. You will support with sampling, investigating complaints and carrying out investigations. This will include taking the appropriate action in line with the relevant policies, procedures and legislation.

Senior Environmental Health Officer: You will undertake a wide range of food hygiene inspections (including higher risk and approved premises), lead on health & safety projects, and respond to reactive work. You will also undertake work regarding sampling, incidents of infectious diseases including food poisonings, and accident investigations. You will provide technical expertise, lead on investigations and where necessary appear and give evidence in Court. This will include taking the appropriate action in line with the relevant policies, procedures and legislation.

The appended Role Description and Employee specification sets out the requirements to be appointed at each level and the attached matrix indicates the likely criteria to determine where appointments will be made and how career advancement to Senior level can take place. We will support your career progression with training and qualification support from Officer to Senior level, and beyond.

You will need…

  • BSc/MSc Environmental Health (or working towards)
  • EHRB or CIEH registration (for Level 2 and Level 3)
  • Driving license and access to a car
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels
  • Motivated and the ability to work individually and as part of a team
