Environmental Health Practitioner (Housing Standards and Enforcement)
Grade 9 £31,346 - £33,782
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven environmental health practitioner to join the Private Sector Housing Team. The post holder will undertake a full range of private sector housing duties. To fulfil the role, you will be self-motivated and have knowledge of relevant housing legislation, including HHSRS assessment and enforcement. Recent experience of licensing and enforcing standards in Houses in Multiple Occupation would be an advantage.
The role will require you to take personal responsibility for investigations, carry out reactive and proactive inspections, serve enforcement notices, issue civil penalties, and prepare and give evidence at court and at tribunals. You will also be required to consider other high-level enforcement interventions including rent repayment orders and banning orders for the most serious cases.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of housing construction and components and an up to date understanding of improvement trends and capabilities including those around energy efficiency. You will be an excellent communicator and will be adept at providing excellent customer care in explaining complex and technical issues accurately, clearly and concisely both orally and in writing when dealing with all service users.
The work will be challenging but equally rewarding. A desire to improve the standards across the private rented sector is essential. You will need to be highly organised and proactive dealing with a busy workload. It is important you are comfortable working under pressure, including leading projects, making decisions and meeting deadlines.
For an informal discussion about the post please contact David McArthur, Housing Services Manager on 01253 887434.
