An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to join Chesterfield Borough Council’s Private Sector Housing Team, with a specific focus of bringing privately owned empty homes within the borough back into use.
The Private Sector Housing team undertake a wide range of functions including, regulation of privately rented accommodation, investigation of allegations of harassment and illegal eviction, delivery of financial assistance for housing repairs, Disabled Facilities Grants, mandatory HMO and residential Mobile Home Park Licensing, taking action against unauthorised traveller encampments as well as the delivery of the Councils Empty Homes Strategy.
We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to develop the Councils empty homes strategy and develop strategic partnerships aimed at bringing empty homes back into use. Where this isn’t possible to explore the use of enforcement options such as compulsory purchase and enforced sale.
You will be a qualified Environmental Health Officer with previous housing enforcement experience and be qualified and experienced in the use and application of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System within a Local Housing Authority environment. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be IT literate, and able to work on your own initiative or as part of a team: committed to undertaking continuing training and development.
A flexible approach to working hours is required to fulfil this 37-hour contract, to be worked between Monday and Friday each week This post requires you to have a valid driving license and your own car available for work purposes.
