SPECIALIST OFFICER – ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Grade G: Salary £26,672 – £31,346 per annum

Do you want to work at the front-line of public health? Our vision and core role as a service is to protect and improve the health, safety and well-being of people living, working and visiting Mid Devon.

We are looking for a team player to undertake Environmental Protection, Pollution Control, Statutory Nuisance and related work as part of our Community Team. This is a varied role involving a broad range of reactive case management alongside more proactive duties. In delivering this highly important role, you will work full-time as a specialist officer within Public Health and Housing Options Services. As part of this team you will work closely with a senior officer and others specialists across a range of regulatory areas with potential opportunities to develop and broaden your skills base.

Taking direction from the Community team leader and senior officer, you will undertake investigations and environmental health enforcement interventions across the district.

An ability to work effectively with a high-level of attention, organisation and self-motivation is essential. You will also need to hold relevant qualifications, and ideally have recent experience in a similar role along with proven technical skills, preferably in a local government enforcement environment. You should also be committed to delivering excellent services and maintaining good communication. Effective interpersonal skills are also must in role which involves working closely with colleagues across the Council as well as our public and business customers.

Computer literacy is essential and a working knowledge of IDOX Uniform case management software would be desirable (though training can be provided).

A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential as travel is required throughout our area.

Some activities can take place on an evening and weekend and therefore there will be occasional work outside of normal office hours.
