Salary: £46,458 PA increasing to £49,502 PA following 12 months satisfactory performance.

Duties :

Dartford is a diverse and exciting place to work, which is undergoing rapid growth and significant development and we are seeking to appoint a new Environmental Protection Team Manager within the Environmental Health Service.

Reporting to the Environmental Health Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Environmental Protection Team and you will be required to also have a broad knowledge and relevant experience in areas such as Pollution Control, Statutory Nuisances, Pest Control, Drainage and other relevant statutory functions. You will be responsible for managing contracted services in respect of both dog kennelling and pest control within the Borough and overseeing the Animal Control Service.

Particular knowledge of local air quality management functions and experience in responding to complex planning consultations, with an emphasis on acoustics, is essential for this role.

The successful candidate will ensure that that statutory duties and team performance targets are met and that staff have their personal development needs addressed. The successful candidate will also need to be able to confidently deal with a small but complex caseload in addition to undertaking their management responsibilities. You will be an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Environmental Health Officer be a manager that is person orientated, focusses on delivering positive outcomes and be committed to delivery excellence in relation to customer service. You will have the ability to lead a team of experienced officers, build relationships and gain respect at all levels both throughout the council and with external organisations.

Working in a reactive service can be unpredictable and challenging so we are looking for someone who can be tactful and diplomatic and is able to keep their head in difficult situations. You will need to be a team player and have strong verbal and written communication skills as you will be expected to present team reports to Committees and in other public forums. An ability to develop the service and ensure that effectiveness and efficiencies are achieved from the use of current and future IT systems is also required.

You will hold a Diploma/BSc/MSc in Environmental Health and be EHRB registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. An additional acoustics qualification would be desirable.

You will be required to have the use of your own vehicle with business insurance and a full valid driving licence. The ability and willingness to work outside of office hours will be required at times.
