We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to carry out the full range of day to day functions and duties of an Environmental Health Officer in accordance with legislative requirements and the Council’s policies and objectives.

Environmental Health Officer – Environmental Protection

£32,234- £34,728 per annum

The successful candidate will be innovative and forward thinking and be required to provide a high quality service to the public, the business community, internal departments and external organisations. You will assist in achieving the Environmental Health Section’s aim to maintain and improve environmental conditions to the benefit of public health.

A demonstrable record of relevant experience in environmental protection surrounding audit and of IPPC, commercial premises and statutory nuisance including noise, odour, light and other potential nuisance are essential criteria for this position and you will be qualified to Diploma or Degree level in Environmental Health (or equivalent).

You will be required to respond to consultations sent to the team relating to planning applications and premises licence applications and may also be required to undertake investigative work with regards to contaminated land requests and create reports as required, in addition to participating in local air quality assessment and management and routine sampling as required. You may also be required to respond to service requests relating to food and health and safety concerns.

You will support the Environmental Health Manager as well as taking the lead in enforcement, regulation and specialist areas were required.

You will be an excellent communicator with a strong commitment to excellent customer service and be able to deal effectively with difficult situations achieving positive outcomes and you will be challenged to use your technical and scientific knowledge to maintain a high standard across the service area and seek to drive continuous improvement.

A commitment to team working is paramount to this post as is the requirement and ability to analyse complex information and make informed decisions with often conflicting demands and keep up to date with current legislation, regulations, guidance and technical developments.

This is a demanding job with a varied workload and a requirement to meet strict deadlines with a risk based approach, therefore a high level of self-motivation and the ability to take the lead and make decisions on specific pieces of work are essential qualities.
