Salary: £44,089 - £47,018 (Inclusive of London Fringe Weighting)

The opportunity has arisen for this vacancy within the Environmental and Community Protection.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Lead Pollution Officer who will play a key role in the delivery of high quality Environmental Health services within the small but busy Pollution and Public Health Team.

This is a role for someone that likes to problem solve and takes pride in protecting the environment and public health. We are looking for a good team member but who is also self-reliant and with a positive attitude to service delivery.

The duties are primarily related to Pollution and Public Health disciplines. They comprise the provision of advice and environmental information, investigation of complaints (predominantly of nuisance) and responding to consultations for planning and licensing.

Good experience of and/or a diploma in acoustics is a distinct advantage as is experience of the planning regime.

Duties also involve strategic work around local air quality management working with partners to fulfil the Councils air quality action plan.

Applicants will have a degree/diploma in a relevant science subject. Additional, technical qualifications are an advantage especially within the field of acoustics and noise control.

You will be expected to keep good records and employ evidence based decision making and where required provide your findings to a range of formal settings such as Council Committees and planning hearings.

You will need to have previous operational experience of working within the pollution and/or public health discipline and possess the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to be able to undertake investigations, interventions and enforcement in this field.

The successful candidate may also be required to provide support to other disciplines in Environmental Health from time to time, particularly with regard to the current pandemic

Applicants must have a driving licence that is valid in the UK.
