Food Safety Officer / Environmental Health Practitioner / Graduate / Trainee Environmental Health Practitioner  (3 Posts)

Trainee / Graduate Environmental Health Practitioner £20,493 to £23,541

Salary Food Safety Officer £22,911to £26,999

Salary (EHP Qualified) £32 324 to £36,922

Boston Borough Council and East Lindsey District Council work together as a strategic alliance with a single workforce.   As Councils we are going through an exciting period of transformation.  We’re becoming agile, innovative and commercial organisations underpinned by a healthy, people-centred, collaborative culture.  We believe work should be enjoyable, challenging and rewarding. We work hard to create an environment in which our teams are supported to achieve their potential. We aim to continually improve the services provided to local people as part of our commitment to improve the quality of their lives and the environment we all live in and enjoy. Working for us, you can make an important contribution to that aim.

We are looking for 3 dynamic people, with a passion for Environmental Health to join our Environmental Health Team to perform a vital role at an exciting time within the department. You will work across the district/Alliance to meet the needs of the business.

As a Food Safety Officer / Environmental Health Practitioner you will provide the front-line response ensuring Food Hygiene and Safety Inspections are carried out to maintain standards within local businesses and support our thriving coastal tourist economy.

You will play a key role within the Environmental Health Team to help deliver this service. You will need to be prepared to deal with a wide range of premises and people.

Every day will present a different challenge.  This is not a job, which is tied to a desk and is not necessarily 9-5. You will be working with local business owners to ensure that the highest possible standards are met. Where standards are not met you will need to work within the legislation to take action to formally deal with non-compliance.

Do you possess the following qualities?

  • A combination of formal off-the-job training plus relevant experience, OR previous education to either certHE or graduate level OR GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in Maths, English and Science
  • Sound knowledge of the food industry
  • A professional, calm and positive manner
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in written form, to a variety of audiences
  • The ability to work as part of a team as well as under your own initiative
  • Excellent IT skills and attention to detail

The post will also involve some work outside of normal working hours and providing support to other areas of the Environmental Health Service.

The Alliance between Boston Borough Council and East Lindsey District Council is a forward-thinking partnership with a flexible approach to working arrangements; the successful candidate would be able to make use of these, such as being able to work from home for some of the working week when not carrying out inspections/site visits.

We offer excellent terms and conditions of employment including a Local Government pension scheme. We also offer a wide range of family friendly policies designed to enable you to balance your work and home life, manage your personal responsibilities and support you in times of difficulty.

If you are interested in having a confidential conversation about the role, please contact David Dodds, Environmental Health Service Manager on 01507 613497 or Email: david.dodds@e-lindsey.gov.uk
