EHO-Senior Technical Officer - Grade SO2

£30,451.00 - £32,234.00

We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our Environmental Health team here at Leeds City Council. As a Core City, Leeds is one of the largest and most diverse cities in the UK, and a key economic, financial, and legal centre in the region. This makes it an exciting, busy, vibrant and dynamic place to work and can give you excellent opportunities to progress or even begin your professional career.

We are now looking to recruit two permanent full-time Environmental Health Officers/Senior Technical Officers who can engage with communities and businesses, as well as having a real passion for Environmental Health.

Depending on the candidate and your skills, competency and experience, potential work areas include commercial environmental protection, health and safety, animal welfare, food safety, infectious disease, and animal health. As part of your role you can expect a mix of casework, inspections, projects and being responsible for enforcement action.

In addition, your duties will include supporting the delivery of authority’s COVID-19 Outbreak Management strategy. This will include investigating workplace outbreaks, investigating complaints, ensuring business compliance with legislation and guidance, as well as supporting our local contact tracing service.

You should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload. Whilst you should be able to interpret policy and legislation, a significant proportion of our work involves advice and guidance, so it is important that you have good influencing skills and can think laterally to solve problems and deliver outcomes. You will also need to possess a commitment to customer care and reducing health inequalities.

Ideally, you will already be EHRB registered, have the new Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner status, or possess an alternative professional qualification relevant to Environmental Health. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates competent in food safety able to deliver the full range of Official Controls and interventions in the current FSA Code of Practice.

However, we are encouraging applications from recent graduates and those working towards their chartered status through the new Chartered Practitioner Programme and wanting to start their careers. For the right candidate we can offer support and training in a location that will give you all the experience you will need to start and develop your career in Environmental Health.

We offer a competitive salary, generous annual leave, flexi-time, flexible working arrangements and a car-mileage allowance.

Working hours are the standard 37 hours per week with the requirement to work flexible hours to meet service requirements.

For more information or an informal discussion about the posts contact Scott Higgins on 0113 3786586 or Ruth Turner 0113 3786568.

We promote diversity and want a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds. Leeds City Council is a Stonewall Top 100 employer, a Mindful employer and a Disability Confident employer.

All new Leeds City Council appointments are made subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.

This role is based in the UK. Employment is conditional on confirmation of the right to work in the UK  - either as a UK or Irish citizen, under the EU Settlement scheme or having secured any other relevant work visa. If you do not have the right to work in the UK and the role does not meet eligibility for sponsorship, please consider carefully whether you meet the eligibility to apply.
