Where this is a requirement for the successful candidate to work from home as part of the role  you will be provided with the necessary IT equipment by the Council, however, you will be responsible for the provision of any required furniture

Role Purpose

We are looking for two Environmental Health Officers to join our small Food, Health and Safety team. You will carry out the day to day functions and duties of the team ensuring businesses within the Borders comply with food law and health and safety legislation.

As an excellent communicator, you will have the skills and ability to communicate with business owners and their staff, members of the public, other agencies, Councillors and other officers at all levels. You will need a pragmatic “can do” attitude and be empathetic and supportive but also demonstrate a robust approach to enforcement when required.

You will be committed to providing excellent customer service and be able to deal with challenging situations calmly and effectively to achieve positive outcomes.

With thriving fish establishments exporting to EU and non-EU countries experience of dealing with Export Health certificates would be an advantage but not essential.

Travel across the Borders will be required and pool cars are provided.

The Borders is an area of outstanding beauty with many outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking. Edinburgh is only an hour or so away and there is now a rail link between Galashiels and Edinburgh and beyond. Edinburgh Airport and Newcastle Airport are both within easy reach.

Essential

Degree / MSc in Environmental Health
Diploma in Environmental Health (REHIS) or equivalent
Participation in Continual Professional Development

*A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post.

* If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability.
