About the role
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Environmental Health Practitioner who will play a key role in the delivery of high quality Environmental Health services within the small but busy Pollution and Public Health Team.
This is a role for someone that likes to problem solve and takes pride in protecting the environment and public health. We are looking for a good team member but who is also self-reliant and with a positive attitude to service delivery.
The duties are primarily related to Pollution and Public Health disciplines. They comprise the provision of advice and environmental information, inspections, investigation of complaints (predominantly of a commercial nature) and responding to consultations for planning and licensing purposes. You will be expected to keep good records and employ evidence based decision making and where required provide your findings to a range of formal settings.
The successful candidate may also be required to provide support to other disciplines in Environmental Health from time to time as well as participate in educational and training events. The role is expected to undertake duties in relation to Port Health at Gatwick airport.
You will need to have previous operational experience of working within the pollution and / or public health discipline and possess the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to be able to undertake investigations, interventions and enforcement in this field.
You will need to have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and be registered with the Environmental Health Officer’s Registration Board or equivalent. Good experience of and/or a diploma in acoustics is a distinct advantage as is experience of the planning regime and noise.

We propose to conduct interviews on the 2 September 2021.
You will be required to cover Port Health Officer duty functions at Gatwick Airport covering weekday and weekend office opening on a rota for which a weekend allowance is paid and shown in the above salary.
A full current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role.
Essential Car User Allowance is payable (currently under review).
Ability to fulfil the criteria required to achieve an airside security pass at Gatwick Airport. See ID Regulations for more information.
Satisfactory clearance of a Basic Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) will be a condition of employment.
As this is a frontline role good verbal and written skills are required. Due to the nature of the work, you must be able to undertake the physical requirements of the role.
