  Mendip District Council

Senior Environmental Health Practitioner

Community Health Service

Full-Time Flexible Working

£33,573 - £37,163 per annum

Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 5BT

Mendip District Council is an innovative authority set in the Mendip Hills of Somerset. The council offices are modern with good facilities and to complement this we offer flexible and remote working.

We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic, motivated person to join our Community Health Service. This is a great opportunity for a team player to make a real difference to protecting public health and improving the wellbeing of the residents of Mendip.

You will be required to deal with all aspects of environmental regulation, so you must have a comprehensive knowledge of environmental health law and practice and in particular an understanding on the regulation and enforcement of statutory nuisance and anti-social behaviour.   You will need a pragmatic “can do” attitude and be empathetic and supportive but also demonstrate a robust approach to enforcement when required. You will be a clear and accurate record keeper and use your knowledge and intuition to seek desirable outcomes.

The way we deliver our services is ever changing and we want someone who is not afraid of innovation and who will challenge and seek out more effective ways of working, driving forward the collaborative partnership  agenda,  whilst maintaining good humour.

You must:

  • Have recent experience of dealing with Statutory Nuisance and anti-social behaviour
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Be able to deliver high quality customer service
  • Be confident in working with businesses, partners and colleagues
  • Be a confident team player, with experience of supervising others

This is a politically restricted post and you will be required to complete an Avon and Somerset Constabulary Non-Police Personnel Vetting form as you may be working with the Police Authority.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Curtis Lakin on (01749) 341634 or Claire Malcolmson on (01749) 341641

Please apply online:

Closing date for applications is Monday 26th July 2021

Interviews will be held on 3rd or 4th August 2021
