The Service

The Community and Environmental Health Team (CEHT) sits within the Council’s Housing and Public Protection Service, which is responsible for a wide range of regulatory functions including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Building Control and Environmental Enforcement as well as the management of the Council’s housing stock.

With 18 staff, the CEHT areas of responsibilities include, nuisance investigation, housing standards, public health and both operation and strategic community safety. Reporting to the CEHT Manager, you will directly manage a team of four professional leading on nuisance investigation and assist in the matrix management of a further two. You will be expected to work closely with the Team’s two other senior officers and in particular, will be required to provide cover for the Senior EHO (Housing). There will be opportunities for integration and close/joint working with the Community Safety Team.

This is fast paced environment with a focus on outcomes for residents with a highly varied workload reflecting the mixed urban and rural character of the County.

The Role

You will provide leadership and direct supervision for your team and must therefore have a strong professional background in nuisance investigation, however, experience of housing standards would be highly desirable, as would previous management experience. Experience of Community Safety or the investigation of anti-social behaviour would be desirable.

A strong commitment to staff development is essential as is the ability to work to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake project work.

Essential requirements:

You must:

•            Hold a recognised graduate or post graduate qualification in Environmental Health.

•            Have significant experience in the investigation/enforcement of nuisance and the associated legal framework.

•            A driving licence.

Desirable requirements:

•            Experience of housing standards investigation and enforcement, including a current HHSRS qualification.

•            Management experience.

•            A professional qualification in acoustics or nuisance investigation.

•            Experience of Community Safety or investigation of anti-social behaviour.
