About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY

Food Safety in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, officers are quickly able to use their range of skills and competencies to ensure the Community is protected. Take Jessica for example. Jessica was a newly qualified officer who was quick to recognise when a food premises had an imminent risk to public health and required closing. With senior colleagues to help support and advise, she not only closed and prosecuted the food business but also established that the premises supplied food to 8 other premises spanning neighbouring local authorities. She worked across the boroughs to seize and dispose of food and ensure that the communities were safe. All this within her first year as an Environmental Health Officer.

The Role:

As an Environmental Health Officer/Food Safety Officer you can make your own powerful contribution by ensuring the food across our borough meets the standards our communities expect and deserve.

We’ll give you all the specific training you need to complete inspections at a variety of businesses.

The visits could be part of regular assessments, in response to public complaints or even an infectious disease notification. And while you’ll handle some cases yourself, there’ll often be times you work alongside colleagues from other teams and departments too.

In every case, you’ll assess the situation against Food Safety and Standards policies and procedures, and take action where required – which could involve giving evidence in court.

There’ll also be opportunities to speak at public events and exhibitions, promoting our work and the importance of food safety.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

It would help to have experience in the field. But equally, you could recently have qualified with the EHRB, or be near to completing your studies.

However, it’s vital that you have not only a practical approach but the strength of character to deal with potentially difficult clients – and the passion to inspire everyone to ever-better food safety.
