Environmental Health Technical Officers

We have a number of vacant Technical roles within the Environmental Health Team that have arisen as a result of internal promotion:

EH Technical Officer (Residential) – 18.5 hours per week

EH Technical Officer (Food Safety) – 15 hours per week

EH Technical Officer (Health & Safety) – 15 hours per week

Grade 7, £31,077 - £34,408 (inclusive of local weighting) depending on experience.  All posts are permanent and based in Hertford.  Closing date is Monday 5 July at 9am.

About the roles

TO Residential

You will be required to visit dwellings, assess hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, produce schedules of work, and give appropriate advice to tenants and landlords on matters ranging from damp and mould to fire safety precautions and HMO licensing.

TO Food Safety

You will carry out proactive and reactive food hygiene inspections and interventions, investigate food complaints and infectious disease notification and investigation.  

TO Health and Safety

You will carry out proactive and reactive inspections and interventions, following accident notification and reports together with Health and safety complaints and requests for service; represent the team on Safety Advisory group (SAG) meetings.

About you

You will support the effective delivery of the Environmental Health team’s functions by using professional skills and knowledge to identify, investigate, analyse, evaluate and advise on issues and solutions relating to areas of environmental health. 

Graduates who are already enrolled on the Environmental Health Practitioner programme are encouraged to apply; graduates are expected to possess a theoretical knowledge of Environmental Health principles including knowledge of enforcement and regulation.

For the residential role applications are encouraged from those with a suitable qualification in Building Construction and/or relevant experience in Housing from an Environmental Health context.

For the Food Safety role applications are welcomed from students who have completed their “Higher certificate in Food control” as well as graduate /newly qualified Environmental Health Officers.

Please note that we will consider combining the Food Safety and Health and Safety roles for the right candidate looking for 30 hours per week.
