Environmental Health, has certainly proved its worth during the pandemic and as we look ahead to the road to recovery we need your help.  Many of our businesses have not been a priority for inspection and require support to achieve compliance beyond Covid and enable them to prosper.

Cannock Chase Council is a forward thinking authority, planning to meet the key challenges for local government in the coming years.  The district has a diverse range of businesses and due to it’s proximity to Birmingham, the M6 and M6 Toll, benefits from continued economic growth offer investment opportunities to both large and small businesses.  In complete contrast, a large part of the district covers Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Beauty and attracts both tourists and numerous events.

The posts are based within the Food and Safety Team which is part of the Food, Safety and Licensing Section. Our Team uses innovative approaches, helping businesses to comply and building positive working relationships.  We have two Primary Authority Partnerships which offer development opportunities in both Food Hygiene and Health and Safety in a fast paced environment, a challenge even for the most experienced professional.   With public health challenges in the District there are also opportunities to work with partners and community groups to improve health outcomes for our residents.

The roles will be varied and challenging.  You will be working within a supportive team and  have freedom to devise and implement project work.  You will be given every opportunity to make full use of your skills as an Environmental Health Professional and to influence how our work is carried out. You must have relevant and recent post qualification experience of working in Environmental Health and demonstrable competence in enforcement (including site visits, inspections, audits, investigations etc.)

You should have good communication and customer care skills, together with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines. The ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, to work well in a team or on your own initiative are also essential criteria for this role, as is a flexible approach to work.  You will need to be confident working remotely as well as around the district or in the office and apply virtual communication skills. You must hold current UK driving licence.

You must hold a degree or equivalent in Environmental Health and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board.  Post qualification experience of Health and Safety enforcement is also essential for this post. In addition you should have IT skills in the use of Microsoft Office software packages, email and internet.
