About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Hillingdons Private Sector Housing Team.  The Private Sector Housing Team aims to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents and the public, who are affected by poor housing conditions and deficient property management in the private rented sector. In this role you will inspect high to mid rise buildings in the private housing sector using  HHSRS to ensure the removal of dangerous cladding and address other  fire safety issues such as poor compartmentation. This is a challenging role that will require you to engage with a range of key stakeholders, ensuring  activities are carried out to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism and that  high and mid rise properties in the Borough are made safe. You will have the opportunity to make a difference to residents’ lives, through dealing with complex cases, leading on prosecutions and enforcement work.

About you

We are looking for two confident environmental health officers or fire safety professionals with  experience in the required disciplines.  The ideal candidate will hold a relevant technical professional qualification in Environmental Health and HHSRS or NEBOSH fire safety certificate FC1 / FC2 or equivalent. You will also be member of CIEH and EHORB registered or with / IFE / CABE / CIOB .  You will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience of working in a similar post ideally in housing/local authority/ fire brigade.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Inspect properties using HHSRS and take appropriate enforcement action 
  • Work with the London Fire Brigade and undertake joint inspections on selected buildings and prepare relevant notices,  and  monitor works. 
  • Engage with the Responsible Person, other persons of interest, leaseholder and tenants and attend meetings as required to ensure transparency.  
  • Produce reports providing regular updates the Private Sector Housing Manager and MHCLG.
  • Provide specialist professional and technical advice and reports on fire safety , including undertaking the role of professional at hearings and legal proceedings etc.
