About us

Camden is building somewhere everyone can thrive, by making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Because, we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. As a Principal Environmental Health Officer you will join Camden’s pioneering and established Private Sector Housing Service’s Enforcement Team.

The role

You will have the chance to work at the ‘cutting edge’ of housing on such interventions as civil penalties, banning orders, rent repayment orders as well as prosecutions. The work will be varied from dealing with complaints and hazards to investigating HMO related offences. You will have the opportunity to support and mentor a team of professional officers in their development and performance to deliver service objectives.

Camden is focused on creating the conditions for people to lead high quality and fulfilling lives. We are committed to delivering frontline services in an efficient and professional manner reaffirming our responsibility to quality of life for our communities.

The Camden Plan sets out or plan to make homes in the borough safe, well-managed, well-maintained and playing an active role in shaping a private rented sector that works.

About you

To be considered for this post you be a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a certificate of registration issued by the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or hold Chartered status.

The ideal candidate will have a detailed knowledge/understanding of the Housing Act 2004, and other legislative framework relevant to improving housing management and conditions and its application to casework. Have experience of working collaboratively with internal and external partners to identify innovative and creative approaches to service directives. You are able to demonstrate your involvement in managing, organising and coordinating cross-service projects, and identify how this has led to successful outcomes. You will have proven experience of providing advice on complex cases and act as a mentor for training purposes.
